The 8th Annual Competition and Economic Regulation (ACER) Week taking place from 2 to 6 October 2023 has kickstarted at The Ravenala Attitude Hotel, Balaclava, this Monday 2 October. This joint event of the Competition Competition and the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) of the University of Johannesburg bring together policymakers, sector regulators, legal practitioners, businessmen, regional competition authorities, among other stakeholders to share knowledge and experience on competition matters.
Two concurrent professional training programmes titled “Competition Economics for Practitioners in Africa” and “Law in Competition Policy” will be running from 2 to 4 October 2023.
The “Competition Economics for Practitioners in Africa” course covers topics in mergers, cartels and abuse of dominance cases, as well as lessons in undertaking impact assessments. These topics will be emphasised from a regional perspective in light of the AfCFTA. The sessions will be facilitated by the following speakers:
