The Competition Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Vipin Naugah as Executive Director. Mr Naugah has been appointed by the President of the Republic on the recommendation of the Prime Minister after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition. He assumed his duties on 18th August 2025.

Prior to his appointment as Executive Director, Mr Naugah was the Head Investigations and the Head of Legal at Competition Commission and brings over 15 years of experience in competition law enforcement both at national and regional levels.

He is a Barrister at Law, called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of Middle Temple, London, in year 2006 and was called to the Mauritian Bar in January 2008. He joined the Competition Commission since its inception in year 2009. After having obtained his LLB (Hons),  Mr Naugah went on to do an LLM in International Commercial Law at the University of Kent, UK and did his Bar Vocational Course (BVC) at the University of West of England, Bristol, UK. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law and a Post-Graduate Diploma in EU Competition Law, both from King’s College, London.

Mr Naugah has spoken on competition law matters in various international forums such as the International Competition Network (ICN) and the African Competition Forum (ACF).

Since December 2022, Mr Naugah has served as a Commissioner on the Board of Commissioners of the COMESA Competition Commission and is currently its Chairperson. He also sits on the Committee Responsible for Initial Determinations (CID), the adjudicative arm of the COMESA Competition Commission.

Mr Naugah, Executive Director of the Competition Commission, stated that:
“It is with great honour and humility that I assume this important function conferred upon me at this strategic juncture where the competition law is being reinforced for heightened delivery. I look forward to further consolidate the solid foundations of the authority. My focus will be to work in close collaboration with our key stakeholders, the Commissioners and the excellent team that we have at the Competition Commission to drive the institution towards delivering concrete results contributing to economic progress and consumer welfare through effective competition in markets.”
