The COMESA Competition Commission and the Competition Commission, in collaboration with the University of Mauritius hosted a sensitisation workshop on 4th October 2024 on the theme “Competition Regulation in Mauritius and the COMESA region”, for students and faculty members of the University.

The opening remarks were delivered by representatives of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Mauritius.

Dr Willard Mwemba, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the COMESA Competition Commission (CCC), highlighted the importance of competition policy to economic development and explained how competition law and economic principles interact with the law. His presentation was followed by that of Mr Isaac Tausha, Chief Economist, CCC, who spoke about the Importance of Competition Regulation in Multilateral Agreements.

Mr. Deshmuk Kowlessur, Executive Director, Competition Commission of Mauritius, shared insights on the role of the Competition Commission of Mauritius in regulating competition in Mauritius. He also discussed some examples of cases in competition law enforcement conducted in Mauritius.
