The Competition Commission hosted the International Competition Network (ICN) Merger Workshop 2025 from 15 to17 October 2025 at the Caudan Art Centre in Port Louis.
The workshop brought together over 100 delegates from 41 countries. Over the course of the event, participants engaged in insightful discussions on key merger control topics, including cross-border cooperation, merger remedies, market definition in digital markets, and the future of merger enforcement in a dynamic global economy.
The workshop served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and global collaboration. The sessions highlighted the importance of robust, transparent, and efficient merger review processes to safeguard competitive markets.
The event was officially opened by the Honourable Michaël Sik Yuen, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection. In his speech, the Minister stressed the importance of competition policy for inclusive and sustainable development for a small economy like Mauritius. He highlighted the need to keep competition policies up to date with latest local, regional and international context.
In his closing speech, Mr. Vipin Naugah, the Executive Director of the Competition Commission, highlighted the importance of this workshop to discuss the challenges of merger control and expressed his appreciation for the active participation and collaboration of all delegates. He reaffirmed the Competition Commission’s commitment to advancing effective merger enforcement both nationally and globally.
