The final day of the ACF Biennial Conference brought together colleagues from across Africa to discuss issues familiar to competition authorities in Mauritius and elsewhere: how to detect a merger that went unnotified and how to work with a sector regulator when both authorities have a role.

Following Professor Thomas Cheng’s discussion of intellectual property, innovation and competition, Mr James Hodge (South Africa) moderated a panel on merger enforcement with colleagues from Tanzania, COMESA Competition & Consumer Commission and Namibia. Mr Paulus Hangula (Namibia) then led an exchange with colleagues from Angola, Eswatini, Kenya and the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (“NAMFISA”)  on cooperation between regulators.

Mr Johannes Ashipala delivered the closing remarks on behalf of the Namibian Competition Commission.
