The COMESA Competition Commission (‘the Commission’) is one of the institutions of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (“COMESA”). COMESA is an economic grouping of 21 Member States Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Democratic Republic of Congo (“DRC”), Egypt, Eswatini, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Commission is mandated to promote and encourage competition within the Common Market by preventing restrictive business practices and other restrictions that deter the efficient operation of markets thereby enhancing the welfare of consumers in the Common Market, and to protect consumers against offensive conduct by market actors. In the process the Commission also assists to enhance economic integration.
In pursuance of its mandate, the Commission is conducting a survey to gather feedback from consumers on issues they have faced with different Airlines operating within the COMESA region.
This will inform the Commission of the consumer concerns in the Aviation sector with the aim of addressing the same and giving redress to aggrieved consumers.
