The Competition Commission, in collaboration with the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA), held a webinar on Raising Awareness among Finance Professionals on Friday 16 July 2021. The webinar was open to all members of MIPA which consists of more than 3,300 registered Professional Accountants.

The objectives of the webinar were as follows:

•    To give an overview of the Competition Commission, how it conducts its work, statistic of cases, areas of harm under the law which it enforces, and the relevance of the Competition Act for finance professionals in broad.

•    To explain to finance professionals, involved in mergers that may be subject to review by the Competition Commission, the provisions of the law regarding mergers and which finance professionals should consider during the process, as well as the possibility to notify the Competition Commission to obtain guidance.

•    To explain to finance professionals who are involved in the pricing strategy of their organisation, the provisions of the law which they should comply with when formulating pricing strategies. Areas to be covered are amongst others, predatory pricing, price fixing, margin squeeze, bundling, rebates, etc.

•    To explain to finance professionals involved in the preparation of bid documents for Government tenders, the do’s and don’ts during a procurement exercise, including amongst others, bid-rigging and the risks associated with it.
